Charlie was right. I was tired, but at the same time I felt like I couldn’t sleep. I was tired, but on a deeper level. I couldn’t see how sleep was going to recharge me, but maybe it would. I slowly pushed my body to stand up and Charlie did as well. I was about to turn away when I felt his hands gently on my biceps as he slowly pulled me in for a hug. It took me a moment to even realize what he was doing. It had been a long time since someone had tried to comfort me. The feeling was almost foreign. There were a couple seconds of delay within my mind before I realized he was giving me a hug, and I was to reciprocate.

I wrapped my arms around him, and he pulled me closer as his hand moved to the back of my neck and he ran his thumb along it. I couldn’t help but close my eyes at the sensation of comfort. It had been a long time since I had felt any form of safety and right at this moment I actually felt safe. I actually felt like maybe everything would be okay. I knew it was impossible. Chances were I would need to leave within the next couple of days, but for this single moment, I could pretend that I didn't have to. I could pretend that we were two people that cared for each other that were going to be parents.

All too soon he was pulling back, but instead of pulling back fully he moved back just enough to slowly press his lips against mine. I was instantly melting against him. His body against mine felt remarkable, and I never wanted this kiss to end. When I felt his tongue against my lips I easily granted him permission to enter. I couldn’t content the soft moan as his tongue touched and mingled with mine. How was it possible that a single kiss could make all my fears and anxiety disappear? The need to feel his skin against mine was all I could think about.

When the need for air became too much, we were forced to pull back from the kiss. I could see the heat within his eyes, but I could also see the hesitation. He was waiting for me to decide how this was going to play out. The smart thing would be to say goodnight and for us to go our separate ways. I knew he said he would be able to help me disappear, but chances were even if he could, I would still be on the run. Maybe not from the reach of a cartel boss, but the hitman had been all over the world. There was no telling how far his reach went. Chances were I would be gone in a couple of days, and we would never see each other again. Maybe one more night wouldn't hurt anything. One more night to pretend that everything was normal between us.
